Good Omens Rec: A sweet world by NohaIjiachi

Title: A sweet world

Ship: Aziraphale/Crowley

Wordcount:  11,226

Summary:

“Good morning!” the man chirped, with a smile that could light up an entire room. “It is such a beautiful day, today, isn’t it?”

Crowley managed to hold back the pained groan he could feel rising from the depths of his throat. Small talk and joyfulness. It was too early for this. Morning people were insufferable.

“D’you make coffee?” he asked instead, or maybe grunted. The man hummed.

“I certainly can,” he commented lightly, turning around and opening an aquamarine painted cupboard.

Why this fic is awesome: Human AU. Aziraphale owns a bakery and is a fundamental delight, Crowley works in an office and doesn’t know how to handle joy when it hits him in the face or, in this case, serves him coffee and lovely little cakes. It is as sweet as cake and just a fun, adorable little delight

Avengers fic rec: Lemon Meringue Lies by Nejinee

Title: Lemon Meringue Lies

Author:

Ship: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes

Wordcount: 111,493

URL: https://archiveofourown.org/works/9960476/chapters/22276841

Summary:

Being a server at a high-end restaurant is working out well for Steve. All he has to do now is convince Bucky he’s good enough to work as chef in the same restaurant. Steve’s determined to prove to his best friend that all Bucky’s talent and passion for food is worth something.

He’s going to make it happen, even if he has to omit a few solid truths to get it done.

Meanwhile, Bucky has his own issues to deal with. Namely: trying his damndest to dig them out of poverty, make sure Steve’s health is on the up and up, and not acknowledging his very longstanding desire for his best friend that is slowly eating him up inside.

A story about food, compassion and stubborn idiots in love.

Why this fic is awesome:

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD! I’m at it again reccing food-related things (I love them). Steve and Bucky live together and Bucky has been cooking for Steve all their lives. Modern AU but with much the same themes as their original backstory, incuding a Bucky working hard to keep a roof over their heads meaning sacrifices have been made along the way, and Steve just wanting Bucky to have a real shot at his own dreams. It all works so well and lovely and is just basically adorable. ADORABLE.

Avengers fic rec: The Way to a Man’s Heart by Niitza, whatthefoucault

Title: The Way to a Man’s Heart

Ship: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes

Wordcount: 43,837

URL:  https://archiveofourown.org/works/14863409

Summary:

It started with shawarma.

A story about food, memory, and how Steve Rogers carved out a place for himself in the 21st century.

Why this fic is awesome:

Well, Chef is one of my favourite films. I genuinely adore this fic. It begins with a newly-thawed totally depressed and isolated Steve not handling this new world he has landed himself in until the shawarma scene- Steve discovers a way to cope by learning about food and cooking which ties in the modern (using new recipes) and the old (food as a means of coming together with family) and in doing so Steve helps to turn the Avengers into a real family. And then Bucky.

Genuine, feel-good, angst followed by love and also cool descriptions of food from all over the world and about cooking and love with cooking – let’s face it food is pretty much universal as a language of families, love and homecoming.

BBC! Sherlock Rec: At Least There’s Football by sheffiesharpe

At Least There’s Football by sheffiesharpe

Title: At Least There’s Football (series)

Author: sheffiesharpe

Ship: Mycroft Holmes/ Greg Lestrade (minor ships Sherlock Holmes/John Watson)

Wordcount: 178,992

Summary: There isn’t a summary for this series as a whole but, roughly put, Lestrade meets Mycroft properly after the incident at the pool and finds in Mycroft someone he’d definitely like to get to know better. (They meet- there is romance, delicacy, beauty and entertainment).

Why this fic is awesome: It is beautifully crafted, both characters are more than just fleshed out they become so much more than the glimpses we see of them on screen and the author makes one totally believe in them and their worlds. The romance is a slow and sweet build which fits both of their characters well – Lestrade who has a bit too much experience of the 70s gay and punk scene and Mycroft who has sheltered himself so distinctly from it that together they find a new way – new to both of them- to grow and develop their relationship. The touches to both characters are brilliant and I think it is probably the most definitive “Mystrade” fic in the BBC!Sherlock fandom. It is more than well worth the read.
