This is an enormously long series, but the summary to the first fic Some Things Should Never Be A Chore is:

Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony’s got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he’s pretty sure that he’s going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy’s still a little spotty about what is ‘clean’ enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick.

And some things shouldn’t be a chore.

Why this fic is awesome: In some ways I am breaking my own rules here because this series just keeps going on, but it really is one of the most seminal works in the fandom. The characterisation is clever and hilarious and I think many of what will now be the fandom’s stock tropes and head!canons probably come from here. This fic touches on all the angsty subjects that are really needed in Avengers’ fiction, but also does so in amusing ways and in true comic book mysterious-wormholes-alien-kidnappings-sentient-roombas-names-Mr Fantastic style.
